First Foray as a Feminist

Jessie, age nine, invited all the girls in her class from school to a picnic day on her father’s cattle ranch near Pueblo, Colorado. This humorous story tells of Jessie’s first foray as a feminist, when she persuaded all her schoolmates to take off their clothes and swim naked in the Arkansas River, “Just like the boys do.” She returned to school, the following Monday, to discover that each girl went home feeling guilty, and as a result, shunned Jessie. But, secretly, Jessie, knew she had given all of them an experience they would never forget.
