Work with Carrie Chapman Catt

Jessie heard that Carrie Chapman Catt was scheduled for a western state speaking tour to get those states to ratify the 19th Amendment. Jessie marched into her office and offered herself to go along as the 2nd speaker. Carrie was twenty years her senior and took Jessie under her wing as her protégé. Later she asked Jessie to be the official lobbyist for the League of Women Voters, newly formed by Carrie in January 1920, eight months before women received the right to vote on August 18th.
